JOB OVERVIEW
ACF is seeking a proactive, highly motivated and detailed-oriented finance professional to manage the daily financial activities and functions for ACF including accounting, reporting, compliance and financial systems. This role plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and efficient financial operations and meeting financial reporting objectives and standards.
This position will also contribute to the implementation and adoption of new financial systems, including NetSuite, and will contribute to the development and refinement of financial processes, controls, and reporting practices.
The ideal candidate uses their expertise, judgment, and highly collaborative approach to build strong partnerships, organizational standards and financial tools. Additionally, the ideal candidate should demonstrate an interest in developing new processes and systems, and to continually improve workflows.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Operations & Accounting
Support Finance Director in managing general accounting functions, including accounts payable and general ledger.
Ensure monthly internal audit review to confirm transactions are accurate and processes are sound.
Prepare quarterly staffing invoices for shared service contracts with external organizations.
Review and approve AP invoices and payment batches.
Review and process reimbursement batches and approve credit card and expense report entries with a high degree of adherence to ACF policies and internal controls.
Review and approve operational activity entries.
Proactively learn and leverage new technologies to improve reporting, controls, system efficiency, and data quality.
Continually seek out efficiencies and methods of leveraging technology to improve accounting workflows.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare and run monthly financial reports, including but not limited to Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Budget vs. Actual, Fund Balance reports.
Develop, format, and deliver financial reports for Board meetings and leadership review.
Develop and produce customized monthly and ad hoc reports for third-party fund managers and external partners.
Prepare annual 1099 filings and assigned schedules for annual audit and Form 990.
Remain informed of changes to GAAP standards or IRS regulations that may impact the Foundation.
System Implementation & Process Improvement
Play a key role in the implementation, testing and adoption of NetSuite and related financial systems.
Identify opportunities to enhance financial systems, internal controls, and reporting accuracy and efficiency.
Ability to proactively iterate and improve financial systems as the organization continues to scale and introduce new products and financial offerings.
After NetSuite launch date, assume back-office processing, including but not limited, to recording investment transactions, bank reconciliation, fees, and close procedures.
Other
Provide backup support for the Finance Manager as needed to ensure continuity of operations.
Special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred) or equivalent experience and a minimum of 7 years of work experience in a nonprofit or philanthropic environment.
Experience managing daily activities while also ensuring an accurate and reliable monthly close and regular reporting.
Demonstrates advanced proficiency with financial and business systems, including NetSuite and Microsoft Office products.
Hands-on, energetic, organized team player with proven ability to adapt quickly in a changing environment, manage competing priorities, exercise discretion, and work independently.
Supports change management efforts with empathy, clear communication, and attention to user adoption.
Engaged in deadlines, deliverables, and team dynamics within a remote workforce
Strong written and oral communication and ability to relate and communicate effectively across all levels of staff.
Ability to work joyfully in a highly collaborative, remote environment.
Dedication ACF mission and to pristine customer service.
Ability to independently learn new software systems and quickly adapt to multiple software systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An active CPA license.
Experience with fund accounting and understanding financial intermediaries.
Client facing, or customer service experience.
- Knowledge and use of relevant business systems including Tipalti, Vena, and SOVOS.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
The starting salary for this position is $125,000 and is commensurate with experience. This position is a remote and a U.S. based role. The role will require domestic travel, as needed, including the Foundation’s retreats and in-person meetings as necessary.
