ABOUT US

REBUILD.US, an initiative of the Amalgamated Foundation, is a soon to be launched rapid response fundraising initiative that aims to direct millions of dollars to the most effective organizations on the ground in areas hit by climate change disasters.

The underlying premise behind REBUILD.US is that billions of dollars are channeled to charity in post disaster moments – mainly to large national and global charities. These funds are largely limited to the support of immediate response and relief periods, and don’t flow through local organizations that work in the community year-round and know how to get help to where it's most needed, fast.  The funds are also not used to address systemic problems that exacerbate the climate disasters such as housing and economic insecurity, fossil fuel, extractive land and water use, unjust immigration system, voter suppression etc.

REBUILD’s model allows trusted, local leaders and organizations to immediately help people in need while also working toward the necessary long term systemic solutions to transform our future.

The organization is in its pre-launch phase and is looking for a Senior Fundraising Director to build out an ambitious fundraising strategy and grow necessary capacity.

ABOUT THE ROLE

REBUILD.US is seeking an Interim Rapid Response Fundraising Consultant to provide targeted fundraising coverage during a leave of absence (approx. July 1 – October 31, 2025). This consultant will serve as the lead fundraising staff member during this period, responsible for managing major donor and foundation pipelines, preparing rapid response fundraising campaigns, overseeing donation processing, and coordinating cross-team donor strategy during peak hurricane and wildfire season for a new start up crisis response fundraising initiative.

The ideal candidate will bring deep fundraising experience, exceptional writing and donor management skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities during urgent response periods, while also ensuring strong donor stewardship throughout the contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for major donor inquiries (>$5K) and institutional funders during the leave period.
  • Draft rapid response fundraising solicitations for climate-related disasters, coordinating with leadership, communications, and program teams.
  • Work closely with staff (including Program Associate) to quickly gather region-specific content and impact stories to support donor solicitations in affected disaster regions.
  • Process gifts in partnership with Amalgamated Foundation. Manage gift entry, tracking, and reporting.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the small-dollar donor team, marketing/comms, and finance to ensure alignment and timely donor stewardship.
  • Attend regular team meetings and provide weekly updates to leadership.
  • During rapid response periods, join daily stand-up calls as needed, and document key developments throughout each rapid response period for institutional knowledge.
  • Maintain a "bird’s eye view" of the organization’s donor response strategy to ensure coordinated, efficient, and maximized fundraising outcomes.

Ideal Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of nonprofit, campaign, or philanthropic fundraising experience.
  • Direct experience managing major donor pipelines and closing gifts with high-net-worth individuals and foundations.
  • Strong strategic judgment and independent decision-making ability when managing donor portfolios.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to produce donor-facing materials quickly.
  • Experience working in fast-paced or rapid-response fundraising environments strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in tracking donations, processing gifts, and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
  • Comfort working remotely with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to equity, social justice, and community-driven solutions.
  • Comfort working as an independent contributor with minimal day-to-day oversight and management. Must be a self-starter.

Compensation & Hours

  • This will be an interim, full-time contract position expected to work approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Must be available outside of standard working hours to respond to rapid response crises.
  • Must be fully available for the duration of the contract
  • The contract is scheduled to run from July 1 - October 31, 2025.
  • Contract amount is $40,000 - $50,000 commisserate with experience.
